Students from eight high schools – Academy of the Holy Family, Bacon Academy, Lyman Memorial High School, Norwich Free Academy, Montville High School, RHAM High School, Waterford High School, and Wheeler High School – convened in the Crozier Williams Student Center at Connecticut College on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 for the 18th Annual Money Madness seminar presented by Chelsea Groton Bank.
The half-day seminar opened with keynote speaker, Rachel Lenda, Director of Tourism for the State of CT. Prior to Charter Oak Federal Credit Union hosted a reception on Tuesday, June 6th to formally award $100,000 in scholarships to 50 deserving high school and college students from the New London and Windham counties.
These students were chosen by a committee that reviewed over 160 applications to their 2023 Community Giving Scholarship Program. Students were required to submit a detailed essay to demonstrate their commitment to their scholarly efforts, as well as to showcase how they plan to give back to their New Capacities, a collective impact project led by United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, has adapted student Career Expo’s for our new world of remote learning and social distancing. Originally intending to support career exploration fairs at the two Norwich middle schools this past Spring 2020 the project changed direction and built the Career Exploration Video Series. EB’s Summer High School Intern Program (SHIP) is a work-based learning internship for local high school juniors. The program, a partnership between Electric Boat, the labor unions and the CT Department of Labor, is aimed at cultivating a strong pipeline for future talent in the trades. New London, CT – Coast Guard Academy men's lacrosse coach Ray LaForte talks to his team about grit on a daily basis.
